Free Comic Book Day 2009
Thanks to everyone who came out for Free Comic Book Day 2009 at Rogues Gallery! We gave away almost all of our free comics for the first time ever, and had the busiest Free Comic Book Day in Rogues Gallery history!
We had several guests come out, including local comic book creators Alan J. Porter, Paul Benjamin, Paul Maybury and Kristin Hogan, as well as our guest in from Ohio, Love & Capes writer/artist Thom Zahler. In addition, Superman, Deadpool and Austin’s own supervillain Lord Vile made appearances throughout the day.
Hope everyone who came out had a good time, and we look forward to having an even better event next year. Below you’ll see a slideshow of about a dozen pictures from this year’s event.
Free RPG Day is Saturday, June 20th!
Free RPG Day is back for 2009, and Rogues Gallery will be participating! The exact nature of any in-store games is still being decided, but one things for sure, we will have free RPGs, and lots of them!
This year’s offerings include commemorative dice from Chessex, a Warhammer 40K Rogue Trader RPG adventure from Fantasy Flight, the 4th Edition Hero’s Handbook from Goodman Games, three offerings (Paranoia XP, Corporation & Dragon Warriors) from Mongoose, a Pathfinder Bestiary from Paizo, and an all-new D&D 4th Edition Eberron adventure from Wizards of the Coast!
We’ll start Free RPG Day at noon on Saturday, June 20th and continue for as long as supplies last. To ensure that as many people get a free game as possible, we’ll be giving out two items per person, so if you want to make sure and get everything you want, bring the whole gaming group out! After 5:00, we’ll let folks take as many as they want, so anyone who wants to swing back by after 5:00 is welcome to take a second run at the table.
We look forward to seeing folks out on June 20th!
Preorder Bonus for Blackest Night
We’ve just heard that DC is going to offer retailers something cool that we’ll be able to offer as a preorder bonus to anyone who buys Blackest Night #1… plastic black lantern rings. We’ll have about 45 of them, and we’ll give them out to anyone who buys Blackest Night #1, while supplies last. First in line to get the rings will be those who have preordered it by adding it to their subscription or putting in a special order, so get those orders in now!
Free Comic Book Day THIS SATURDAY!
It’s finally here! Free Comic Book Day is this Saturday, May 2nd, 2009! As always, Rogues Gallery will be throwing a big old free comics party as a result, from when we open (10 AM) to when we close (9 PM).
We’ll have the full selection of free comic books, of course, and Free Comic Book Day balloons that we’re happy to hand out to any kids who want them. Our general guideline is that everyone can pick 3 or 4 comics each, but if you want to come back for a second handful after 5 PM, you’re welcome to do so. We just want to make sure we have enough so that everyone gets enough comics throughout the day.
In addition, we’ll have guests in attendance! Thom Zahler (Love & Capes) will be signing for most of the day, Alan Porter (Pixar/Boom! World of Cars) and Paul Benjamin (Pantheon High, Marvel Adventures Hulk, upcoming: Monsters Inc.) will be signing from 11 AM – 1 PM, and we have strong intelligence that Lord Vile, Austin’s own supervillain, might be descending upon the store at some point as well!
Both Alan and Thom will have new issues of their comics available among the Free Comic Book Day selections, which also include the Blackest Night prologue from DC Comics, a new Avengers book from Marvel Comics, Aliens/Predator, Transformers, G.I. Joe, Wolverine, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and plenty more.
You can find more information, including a list of comics available this year, at the official website at http://www.freecomicbookday.com/
