For the second year in a row, Rogues Gallery is participating in Free Comic Book Day 2, a.k.a. Halloween Comicfest on Saturday, October 19th from 11 AM – 5 PM!
This year, we’re bringing in some guests for some monsters and aliens-themed signing and sketching! The guests include Sean Wang (sci-fi graphic novel Runners), Rob Harrell (all-ages graphic novel Monster on the Hill), Kennon James (Mohagen) and Matt Frank (artist, Godzilla Rulers of the Earth)! We’ll also have free comics that include all-ages offerings like Sonic, Adventure Time, Ultimate Spider-Man Itty-Bitty Hellboy, Batman L’il Gotham, a Cartoon Network sampler of Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack and Ben 10. Plus more grown-up fare like a free sampler of horror manga master Junji Ito (a management favorite), a sample chapter of Batman: The Long Halloween and the debut of Avatar’s new dark modern fantasy Disenchanted!
In addition, anyone coming in costume can take 15% off on their graphic novel purchases for the day. Note: You must come in an actual costume. Showing up and saying “I’m dressed as a comic geek!” ain’t gonna fly. We’re getting close to Halloween here, y’all have costumes ready, right?

Magic The Gathering Theros Game Day
Rogues Gallery will be hosting Magic The Gathering Theros Game Day on Sunday, October 20th from 12:00 – 3:30 PM.
The Standard format uses only the newest sets the game has to offer. The current block, the block that was released the previous fall, and the most recent core set are al legal to play in a Standard deck. The following sets are Standard legal for Theros Game Day: Return to Ravnica™, Gatecrash™, Dragon’s Maze™, Magic 2014™ Core Set, and Theros.
All participants receive an exclusive Phalanx Leader full-art promo card (while supplies last). The Top 8 players each receive an exclusive Nighthowler full-art foilpromo card. The cards are awarded to the Top 8 players even if the tournament cuts only to the Top 4. In addition, the 1st-place winner ofTherosGame Day will receive an exclusive Playmat.
New Store Display is up!
Nick is still putting the final touches on it, but the newest action figure display is up in the store display case.
The theme, hand-built by Nick as usual and featuring a wide array of figures, is Game Night at the Batcave!

Magic The Gathering Theros Pre-Release on Sunday, September 22nd!
FIRST ROUND BEGINS AT NOON – SECOND ROUND BEGINS AT 3:30 – PRE-REGISTRATION STRONGLY RECOMMENDED
Rogues Gallery will be holding two pre-release events for Magic: The Gathering’s newest set, Theros, on Sunday, September 22nd! We recommend that you call or email ahead to pre-register, because we have limited space and tend to fill up well before the day of the event itself. We have room for 16 players in the first event, beginning at noon, and 16 players in the second event, beginning at 3:30 PM. If space allows, we are happy to allow players to play in both pre-release tournaments… players will have to buy-in to both tournaments, you cannot carry over cards or decks from the first pre-release into the second. In addition, of late we’ve had folks sign up and not show up, so if you don’t get in on your preferred time, you are welcome to sign up as an alternate or to come in on the day and try to get available spaces.
Registration will begin at noon on September 22nd. We’ll begin the first event at 12:30 with 30 minutes to construct your decks, and the pre-release will run 3 rounds from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM (at the latest). Please note that if you are pre-registered, you must arrive by 12:15 to claim your spot or it will be opened up for walk-ins.
The second tournament will begin registration at 3:30, and the tournament will start as close to 4 PM as we can manage, with 30 minutes to construct your decks. Please note for those pre-registered, you must arrive by 3:45 to claim your spot or it will be opened up for walk-ins.
We will allow walk-ins for both tournaments if the space is not filled, but we encourage pre-registration, as we generally fill up fairly quickly. In addition, because there are two events, and because the second event may run later than our usual closing time, we won’t be able to offer trading or casual place space after the tournaments end.
Players will choose their heroic path based on a favorite mana color and buy a Seeded Prerelease Pack containing spindown life counter, a Hero Card unique to a players’ chosen path, one of five quiz activity cards, five Theros boosters, and a seeded booster featuring cards appropriate for that player’s chosen path including one of the five Prerelease promo cards. The price will be $25 (plus tax).
Prize support will be in the form of Theros boosters.
In addition to the main Prerelease Tournament events, if space allows, we will offer Open Dueling, allowing any player who wants to play to purchase 1 Magic Theros Intro Pack to play against each other, as well as Prerelease tournament players who are between matches.
Theros also introduces a new concept, The Hero’s Path, to Magic The Gathering. A series of three Hero cards will be given out at the Prerelease, Launch Weekend Friday Night Magic and the Theros Game Day. More information will be provided at the Prerelease when we have more details to give.
Magic Celebration on Saturday, September 7th
Been wanting to try out Magic 2014? Come out to Magic Celebration, an event geared for Magic newbies! Rogues Gallery will be participating in Magic Celebration 2013, featuring free cards and free downloadable content for the Magic 2014—Duels of the Planeswalkers game! The event begins at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 7th!
Each Magic Celebration player receives one Magic 2014 Core Set booster pack** and achievement card**. After opening your booster pack, you’ll choose a Magic 2014 Core Set Sample Deck** to add cards from your booster pack to. To play, open your booster pack and choose a color of cards from your booster you want to play. Then, ask the tournament organizer for a Magic 2014 Core Set Sample Deck of that color to use as the rest of your deck.
Shuffle the cards you want to play from your booster pack into your sample deck and play three best-of-three matches with different opponents.
When you’ve played all of your matches, show your completed score card (on the back of your achievement card) to the tournament organizer to receive an additional Magic 2014 Core Set booster pack as a prize!
