Magic the Gathering Prerelease on Sunday, July 17th!

eldritchmoonFIRST ROUND BEGINS AT NOON – SECOND ROUND BEGINS AT 4:00 – PRE-REGISTRATION STRONGLY RECOMMENDED

Rogues Gallery will be holding two prerelease events for Magic: The Gathering’s new set, Eldritch Moon, on Sunday, July 17th! We recommend that you call or email ahead to preregister, because we have limited space and tend to fill up well before the day of the event itself. We have room for 16 players in the first event, beginning at noon, and 16 players in the second event, beginning at 4:00 PM. If space allows, we are happy to allow players to play in both prerelease tournaments… players will have to buy-in to both tournaments, you cannot carry over cards or decks from the first prerelease into the second. In addition, of late we’ve had folks sign up and not show up, so if you don’t get in on your preferred time, you are welcome to sign up as an alternate or to come in on the day and try to get available spaces.

Registration will begin at noon on July 17th. We’ll begin the first event at 12:30 with 30 minutes to construct your decks, and the pre-release will run 3 rounds from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM or so. Please note that if you are preregistered, you must arrive by 12:15 to claim your spot or it will be opened up for walk-ins.

The second tournament will begin registration at 4:00, and the tournament will start as close to 4 PM as we can manage, with 30 minutes to construct your decks. Please note for those preregistered, you must arrive by 4:00 to claim your spot or it will be opened up for walk-ins.

Prerelease packs will be $25.99 plus tax. You must buy a pack for each tournament you enter.

We will allow walk-ins for both tournaments if the space is not filled, but we encourage preregistration, as we generally fill up fairly quickly. In addition, because there are two events, and because the second event may run later than our usual closing time, we won’t be able to offer trading or casual place space after the tournaments end.

Prize support will be in the form of Eldritch Moon boosters. We award boosters for each round you win. The remainder are divided up into first, second and third prizes.

In addition to the main prerelease tournament events, if space allows, we will offer open dueling, allowing any player who wants to play to purchase Eldritch Moon Intro Packs to play against each other, as well as prerelease tournament players who are between matches.

This month’s game is on July 16th, and the game is Nyet!, a trick taking card game with an opening round in which players remove various options, such as trump and super-trump by putting markers on a display, to leave the actual playing conditions for that hand.

So whether you’ve played Nyet before or just want to try it out, come join us for Gaming with Rogues! And don’t forget that with your Rogue Card, you can get 10% off on Nyet from now until the next Gaming with Rogues selection is chosen!

Also, Gaming with Rogues is an open game night, so folks are welcome to play any game in our well-stocked boardgame and card game library or bring a favorite game of their own!

Heroclix Civil War Event on Monday, June 20th!

civilwarThe Superhuman Registration Act has divided the heroes (and villains) of the Marvel Universe— whose side will you be on when you face off against your friends and former allies in Marvel HeroClix: Civil War?

Marvel HeroClix: Civil War is a four-month Storyline Organized Play event series that will both divide and unite HeroClix players around the world as they choose to fight alongside Iron Man and other Pro-Registration heroes or alongside Captain American and his band of Anti-Registration vigilantes.

The format is Battle Royale format, up to 4 people per pod. You’ll buy 1 booster, open it up, keep anti-registration (2 figures) OR pro-registration (2 figures) + 1 neutral figure. You’ll then pass the two figures you aren’t keeping and that gives everyone 5 figures to play with. Winner will be determined by the person that knocked out the most figures. When the battle royale is done, everyone will put all of their figures in the middle, one blind LE booster will be opened and also put in the middle, and the prize/figures will then be snake drafted until all figures are taken.

We can have up to 8 players, and should be able to run two rounds if there are enough people, so if there are more than 8 players, some players could play only the second round while others play only the first. The second round should start around 8 PM.

You’ll need to register and sign in on the Wizkids page to participate in this event.

Every second Tuesday of alternate months, we’ll hold our graphic novel reading club! The next meeting is on Tuesday, June 14th, starting at 6:30 PM and running until we run out of stuff to talk about (or 9 PM, when the store closes). Folks can come and go as they please, and we should have plenty of room.

We’ll talk about our graphic novel selections for the past two months, as well as whatever other comics and related pop culture we deviate into! Got a favorite graphic novel you’ve read and want to talk about? Bring it with you!

The managers of Rogues Gallery will be on hand to talk about comics and hopefully get everybody chatting… we’re hoping to extend the vibe of our New Comics Wednesdays to everyone who maybe doesn’t get a chance to talk comics with their regular group of friends, or just can’t get enough comics talk.

Every month, we do a monthly “Reading with Rogues” selection, and that graphic novel is 15% discount off for that month. if you’ve got a Rogue Card, it’s 25% off!

We’d love for folks to RSVP on the Facebook event page just so we can have a rough headcount, but walk-ins are absolutely welcome. And while we’ll focus the discussions around the graphic novel of the month, we’ll almost certainly be talking about other comics and graphic novels.

We look forward to talking comics with you!
