Gaming with Rogues – Unearth and Boss Monster

On the third Saturday of every month, Rogues Gallery will host a casual gaming night – each month will focus on a different game. The game night will begin at 6:30 PM and run until 9:00 PM, when the store closes.
This month’s game is on October 21st, and we’ll be playing Brotherwise Games’ new game Unearth and their older game Boss Monster!

Unearth is a bend-your-luck game of dice placement and set collection. Designed by Jason Harner and Matthew Ransom, it plays in under an hour with 2-4 players. Each player leads a tribe of Delvers, represented by five dice (3 six-sided, 1 four-sided, and 1 eight-sided). Players take turns rolling and placing dice in an attempt to claim Ruins.

The game’s elegant core mechanic is accessible to players of all skill levels. High rolls help players claim Ruins, while low rolls help players collect Stones. This opens two paths to victory: claiming sets of Ruins or using Stones to build Wonders. Delver cards help you affect your dice rolls or dice in play, and Wonders can grant abilities that impact the late game.

Inspired by a love of classic video games, Boss Monster: The Dungeon Building Card Game pits 2-4 players in a competition to build the ultimate side-scrolling dungeon. Players compete to lure and destroy hapless adventurers, racing to outbid one another to see who can build the most enticing, treasure-filled dungeon. The goal of Boss Monster is to be the first Boss to amass ten Souls, which are gained when a Hero is lured and defeated — but a player can lose if his Boss takes five Wounds from Heroes who survive his dungeon.

Playing Boss Monster requires you to juggle two competing priorities: the need to lure Heroes at a faster rate than your opponents, and the need to kill those Heroes before they reach your Boss. Players can build one room per turn, each with its own damage and treasure value. More attractive rooms tend to deal less damage, so a Boss who is too greedy can become inundated with deadly Heroes.

Players interact with each other by building rooms and playing Spells. Because different Heroes seek different treasure types, and rooms are built simultaneously (played face down, then revealed), this means that every “build phase” is a bidding war. Spells are instant-speed effects that can give players advantages or disrupt opponents.

So whether you’ve played before or just want to try it out, come join us for Gaming with Rogues! And don’t forget that with your Rogue Card, you can get 10% off on Unearth and Boss Monster from now until the end of August!

Also, Gaming with Rogues is an open game night, so folks are welcome to play any game in our well-stocked boardgame and card game library or bring a favorite game of their own!

Ladies Night Book Club!

LADIES! Do you like comics? Do you like games? Do you just enjoy getting your geek on? Are you looking to make some awesome new friends? Then join us for LADIES NIGHT, hosted by our lady staff!

This month, we’re doing a book club on Saturday, September 30th from 8 PM – 11 PM! Teala has chosen THE WICKED + THE DIVINE VOL 1 as our first graphic novel. Here’s the synopsis she stole from Goodreads:

“Every ninety years, twelve gods incarnate as humans. They are loved. They are hated. In two years, they are dead. The team behind critical tongue-attractors like Young Avengers and PHONOGRAM reunite to create a world where gods are the ultimate pop stars and pop stars are the ultimate gods. But remember: just because you’re immortal, doesn’t mean you’re going to live forever.”

It’s a pretty Rated R book, so this event will be 17+.

We would also like to add that we do not discriminate here at Rogues Gallery. If you identify as female/femme you are most welcome.

As always, pretty please RSVP on the Facebook event, just so I can get a rough headcount.

Hope to see you there! 🙂

DC Deck-Building Tournament in October!

We’ll be hosting a tournament for one of our favorite games, the DC Deck-Building game, on Saturday, October 7th starting at 1 PM! We’ll have room for up to 15 players, and we’ll have Vixen promo cards to give away to up to 10 players!

Come on out and give the game a try, we’re happy to teach it if you haven’t played before, or if you want to get some practice, come out and play on our Tuesday night open boardgame nights!

The game should run until about 4 PM, depending on turnout and how long the rounds take.

Magic the Gathering Ixalan Draft Weekend!

For centuries, the untamed jungles of Ixalan have hidden a coveted secret: Orazca, the city of gold. But no secret can remain undiscovered, and no treasure can be taken uncontested. Unfurl your sails, saddle up a dinosaur, and battle your rivals as you embark on a journey to claim the plane’s greatest fortune for yourself!

By popular demand, be running a draft event for draft weekend on Saturday, September 30th!

Players will each buy 3 booster packs. Players open one booster pack and choose one card from the pack and then pass the remaining cards to player on their left. They will continue until all cards have been chosen from the first booster pack. Repeat this process for the next two boosters, switching the direction in which the boosters are passed around the table.

Each player will construct a deck with a minimum size of 40 cards. We’ll provide a land station so folks can borrow land for their decks if they would like.

Participants will receive a free, limited edition draft weekend promo card!

We’ll run a draft starting at 2 PM – 5 PM, and if there’s interest after that round we’ll run another round for 5 PM – 8 PM. You can sign up ahead of time by dropping us an email, or just drop in on the day!

Harley Quinn Day is Saturday, September 23!

The fan-favorite event celebrating The Dark Knight, “Batman Day” is back… with a twist!

This year, since it’s her 25th birthday, Harley Quinn is taking over the day!

We’ll have free Batman and Harley Quinn masks (one per person, while supplies last) for the first 100 or so people in the door! The Batman masks are in the style of Jim Lee, John Romita Jr., and Andy Kubert, while the Harley Quinn is in the style of Yancy LaBat.

We’ll also have a 15% off on all Batman and Harley Quinn graphic novels and merchandise that day! We’ll have cosplayers on hand for kids to take pictures with, and we’ll have a demo of the Batman Animated Series dice game at 1 PM!

Gaming with Rogues – Tokaido

On the third Saturday of every month, Rogues Gallery will host a casual gaming night – each month will focus on a different game. The game night will begin at 6:30 PM and run until 9:00 PM, when the store closes.
This month’s game is on September 16th, and we’ll be playing Tokaido!

In Tokaido, each player is a traveler crossing the “East sea road”, one of the most magnificent roads of Japan. While traveling, you will meet people, taste fine meals, collect beautiful items, discover great panoramas, and visit temples and wild places but at the end of the day, when everyone has arrived at the end of the road you’ll have to be the most initiated traveler – which means that you’ll have to be the one who discovered the most interesting and varied things.

Through a unique zen mood, Tokaido is a strategic game while being extraordinarily peaceful and easy to learn.

So whether you’ve played Tokaido before or just want to try it out, come join us for Gaming with Rogues! And don’t forget that with your Rogue Card, you can get 10% off on Tokaido from now until the end of August!

Also, Gaming with Rogues is an open game night, so folks are welcome to play any game in our well-stocked boardgame and card game library or bring a favorite game of their own!
