Round Up For Charity!

Rogues Gallery Comics & Games is offering a new charitable donation system for our customers. If you’d like, you can “round up” your purchase to the nearest dollar amount, and at the end of the month, we’ll collect all the rounded-up amounts and send a check to that month’s charity.

We’ll also be matching the first $100 of donations each month. For October, y’all helped us raise $100 for the Hurricane Maria Community Relief & Recovery Fund!

This can be done with cash or card, and it’s as easy as asking the person ringing you up to round up your transaction. Our charity of the month for November is The Central Texas Food Bank.

Boardgame Nights on Tuesdays!

In response to popular demand, we’re starting up a regular boardgame and cardgame night on Tuesdays! The tables are always open, of course, but for this specific night we figure people should start showing up around 6 PM, and we’ll be open until 9 PM so y’all can play games!

Bring your own, or feel free to sample our well-stocked game library!

Game Space: Rules & Reservations

We have two standing game tables available for free play, as long as they aren’t reserved for other use.

Standard reserved times include Monday night from 6 PM – 9 PM (Heroclix), Thursday night from 6 PM – 9 PM (D&D Adventurers League), Friday night from 6 PM – 10 PM (Magic The Gathering) and one Saturday a month from 6 PM – 9 PM (Gaming with Rogues).

Game Table Reservations:

The tables are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. However, you can also reserve the tables for a 3 hour window, and we can have a standing reservation if someone wants to run a weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly game.

Standard slots are 11 AM – 1 PM, 1 PM – 4 PM, and 4 PM – 7 PM. If you’re running a longer game, you can sign up for two consecutive slots, and any of these can extend another 2 hours, provided there isn’t someone signed up to use the table after that.

If you have a Rogue membership, you can reserve up to three slots free per week. Also, any time you purchase a game from us, you can ask to have a slot reserved to play that game (or any other game you have) anytime in the next two weeks (14 days).

We will also provide free game space for anyone wishing to demo or playtest their game for our players, provided the demo is open to all customers.

Otherwise, we will ask for $10 to reserve a table for a 2-6 hour slot.

We ask that those with a reserved game slot arrive within 15 minutes of the start time, or we reserve the right to offer the space to someone else.

Organized Play:

We support organized play for Heroclix, Dungeons & Dragons and Magic the Gathering at present, plus boardgames under the Asmoplay program.

We are happy to support more organized play if there is an interest, and can order organized play kits if you have a group that is interested in purchasing them for use at the store. If we can get a big enough group for organized play, Rogues Gallery will provide organized play kits and prizes, although we will at that point ask that anyone be allowed to play in tournaments.

In-Store Gaming Rules:

1. We’re a family store – please keep cursing/swearing to a minimum – even if a red dragon just ate your favorite character.

2. Keep other shoppers in mind when you’re playing – We want you to enjoy yourself, but make sure and keep shopping aisles clear and keep the noise level reasonable.

3. Food is allowed (within reason), we just ask you to be careful not to spill on the product, tables, other gamers, etc.

4.We expect everyone to be a courteous winner and a gracious loser, especially if you’re playing with strangers. A little friendly banter is fine, but smack talk and whining will not be tolerated.

5. Showing up a little early is encouraged. It’s important that our staff is able to close up on time and get home, so we try not to run gaming late if possible.

6. Clean up after yourself. Trash cans are in the bathroom and up at the counter.

Staffers’ and DMs’ decisions are final.  If you have an issue, feel free to email or call the management, but arguing with the staff or DM at the time is not acceptable.

Breaking these rules can result in a warning, a temporary suspension of table privileges, or a ban on future use of game tables, at the discretion of management.

P.S. We’d like to ask that folks not use the tables for sitting and reading, to keep them available for use in playing board, card, and role-playing games.

Doomsday Clock Midnight Release

The much-anticipated sequel to Watchmen, Doomsday Clock #1, releases at 3 minutes to midnight this Tuesday, November 21st! We’ll close at 9 PM as normal and then reopen at 11 PM! Come out and join us for some cake, Watchmen and comics discussion, and your first chance at the first issue as well as the variant covers!*

DC has also encouraged retailers to sell their other releases for the week, so we will be selling new DC Comics along with Doomsday Clock!

*We’ll issue tickets for those who want to buy variants and draw random numbers to determine who goes first. One variant per person until we know everyone who wants one had a chance to buy them.

Black Friday Sale and Thanksgiving Hours

maxsantacolorOur ninth annual Black Friday sale is coming on Friday, November 24th. Come kick off your holiday shopping and earn bonus gift certificates!

From the time we open (10 AM) until the time we close (10 PM) on Friday, November 24th, any purchase you make will also earn you bonus holiday gift certificates. For every $25 you spend, you’ll get $5 on a gift certificate, and you can break those up into individual $5 gift certificates, one big gift certificate with the whole amount or any other combination you choose. So for example, if you spend $100, you’ll get $20 in our special holiday gift certificates.

Rogue Card members will get a special bonus! If you show your Rogue Card, you will get $5 on gift certificates for every $20 you spend! And yes, you can buy a Rogue membership on Black Friday, although the $35 membership fee won’t count toward your total for gift certificates (that’s just not fair to everyone who bought them on other days).

So come on in and get a little extra bang for your holiday-shopping buck. Or pick up something for yourself and get some bonus money to give away as gifts. But make sure and stop in for this one-day event!
Boring Rules Stuff:
Just like our regular gift certificates, these have no expiration date, and can be used for anything in the store. We’ll be using these throughout the holiday season. They cannot be used on the day of purchase, but can be used as early as Saturday, November 29th.
The amount used to calculate bonus gift certificates is the pre-tax value of merchandise (within reason – a $24.99 or $24.95 item will get you the $5 gift certificate). $5 is given for each full $25, not a fraction thereof.
We will be closed on Thursday, November 23rd for Thanksgiving. There are no comic shipping delays related to Thanksgiving.

Magic the Gathering Rivals of Ixalan Prerelease

FIRST ROUND BEGINS AT NOON – SECOND ROUND BEGINS AT 4:00 – PRE-REGISTRATION STRONGLY RECOMMENDED

The legendary city of Orazca has been found, but it will not be claimed without a fight. Now, you must outpace, outwit, and overpower your rivals as you vie for control of this ancient metropolis. Succeed, and you will wield the greatest power of the plane.

Rogues Gallery will be holding two prerelease events for Magic: The Gathering’s new set, Rivals of Ixalan, on Sunday, January 14th! We recommend that you call or email ahead to preregister, because we have limited space and tend to fill up well before the day of the event itself. We have room for 18 players in the first event, beginning at noon, and 18 players in the second event, beginning at 4:00 PM. If space allows, we are happy to allow players to play in both prerelease tournaments… players will have to buy-in to both tournaments, you cannot carry over cards or decks from the first prerelease into the second. In addition, of late we’ve had folks sign up and not show up, so if you don’t get in on your preferred time, you are welcome to sign up as an alternate or to come in on the day and try to get available spaces.

Registration will begin at noon on January 14th. We’ll begin the first event at 12:30 with 30 minutes to construct your decks, and the pre-release will run 3 rounds from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM or so. Please note that if you are preregistered, you must arrive by 12:15 to claim your spot or it will be opened up for walk-ins.

The second tournament will begin registration at 4:00, and the tournament will start as close to 4 PM as we can manage, with 30 minutes to construct your decks. Please note for those preregistered, you must arrive by 4:00 to claim your spot or it will be opened up for walk-ins.

Prerelease packs will be $25.99 plus tax. You must buy a pack for each tournament you enter.

We will allow walk-ins for both tournaments if the space is not filled, but we encourage preregistration, as we generally fill up fairly quickly. In addition, because there are two events, and because the second event may run later than our usual closing time, we won’t be able to offer trading or casual place space after the tournaments end.

Prize support will be in the form of Rivals of Ixalan boosters. We award boosters for each round you win. The remainder are divided up into first, second and third prizes.

In addition to the main prerelease tournament events, if space allows, we will offer open dueling, allowing any player who wants to play to purchase Rivals of Ixalan Planeswalker Decks to play against each other, as well as prerelease tournament players who are between matches.

Gaming with Rogues – Codenames

On the third Saturday of every month, Rogues Gallery will host a casual gaming night – each month will focus on a different game. The game night will begin at 6:30 PM and run until 9:00 PM, when the store closes.
This month’s game is on November 18th, and we’ll be playing Codenames Duet, as well as other Codenames variants!

Codenames is aboard game for 2-8 players. Two teams compete by each having a Spymaster give one word clues which can point to multiple words on the board. The other players on the team attempt to guess their team’s words while avoiding the words of the other team.
So whether you’ve played before or just want to try it out, come join us for Gaming with Rogues! And don’t forget that with your Rogue Card, you can get 10% off on Codenames from now until the end of November!

Also, Gaming with Rogues is an open game night, so folks are welcome to play any game in our well-stocked boardgame and card game library or bring a favorite game of their own!

There is a $5 buy-in for the game, but each player will get a Daisy Walker alternate art card, a Daisy Walker token, and a playmat featuring Eixodolon’s Pet. We’ll have room for up to 4 players, and if there’s interest, we should be able to order more kits to accommodate more players!

We’ll have a set of Arkham Horror on hand for 4 players, but more players will need to bring their own copies of Arkham Horror to play. We’ll be keeping an eye on RSVPs to see if we need to order more event packs.

Local Comic Shop Day on Saturday, November 18th!

Gaming with Rogues – Unearth and Boss Monster

On the third Saturday of every month, Rogues Gallery will host a casual gaming night – each month will focus on a different game. The game night will begin at 6:30 PM and run until 9:00 PM, when the store closes.
This month’s game is on October 21st, and we’ll be playing Brotherwise Games’ new game Unearth and their older game Boss Monster!

Unearth is a bend-your-luck game of dice placement and set collection. Designed by Jason Harner and Matthew Ransom, it plays in under an hour with 2-4 players. Each player leads a tribe of Delvers, represented by five dice (3 six-sided, 1 four-sided, and 1 eight-sided). Players take turns rolling and placing dice in an attempt to claim Ruins.

The game’s elegant core mechanic is accessible to players of all skill levels. High rolls help players claim Ruins, while low rolls help players collect Stones. This opens two paths to victory: claiming sets of Ruins or using Stones to build Wonders. Delver cards help you affect your dice rolls or dice in play, and Wonders can grant abilities that impact the late game.

Inspired by a love of classic video games, Boss Monster: The Dungeon Building Card Game pits 2-4 players in a competition to build the ultimate side-scrolling dungeon. Players compete to lure and destroy hapless adventurers, racing to outbid one another to see who can build the most enticing, treasure-filled dungeon. The goal of Boss Monster is to be the first Boss to amass ten Souls, which are gained when a Hero is lured and defeated — but a player can lose if his Boss takes five Wounds from Heroes who survive his dungeon.

Playing Boss Monster requires you to juggle two competing priorities: the need to lure Heroes at a faster rate than your opponents, and the need to kill those Heroes before they reach your Boss. Players can build one room per turn, each with its own damage and treasure value. More attractive rooms tend to deal less damage, so a Boss who is too greedy can become inundated with deadly Heroes.

Players interact with each other by building rooms and playing Spells. Because different Heroes seek different treasure types, and rooms are built simultaneously (played face down, then revealed), this means that every “build phase” is a bidding war. Spells are instant-speed effects that can give players advantages or disrupt opponents.

So whether you’ve played before or just want to try it out, come join us for Gaming with Rogues! And don’t forget that with your Rogue Card, you can get 10% off on Unearth and Boss Monster from now until the end of August!

Also, Gaming with Rogues is an open game night, so folks are welcome to play any game in our well-stocked boardgame and card game library or bring a favorite game of their own!
